The following provision has been included in H.R. 1585: The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (as reported in the U.S. House of Representatives).
Recognize America’s victory in its longest war by bestowing Cold War Victory Medal recognition on every man and woman who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces during America’s longest war

Thank you for your efforts in the matter of the Cold War Medal. As one who actively served during the Cold War, I am all for it. Circumstances and “rules of engagement” during the Cold War changed daily, and there was a lot of potential for something drastic to happen all the time. Sometimes I think the Cold War was much more dangerous in that respect than a “hot war.”
