Flag waving is a grand attribute. It allows us to show our patriotism, display our love of country, and honor the men and women who have defended our nation and preserved our cherished way of life.

But when the flag waving ends and the cheering dies out there is always the unfinished business that remains. The business of taking care of our veterans, both young and old. We may squabble back and forth as to who is to blame for our failure to do so, the VA, Congress, or an entire nation. Yet the unfinished business, the legal and moral commitment that we have made to care for those who have served goes unfulfilled.

Many are in need of health-care that they do not receive or that they do not know how to access. Yet others require housing, jobs, education and training, therapy and specialized care that are not readily available to them.

There are always plenty of opportunities to point an accusing finger, but we are a nation of just and moral people and it is inherent in our culture that we honor our commitments and fulfill our promises.

You can help keep the promises that were made to our Veterans. It’s not difficult, it just needs to be done. Keep that flag waving. It inspires all of us and reminds us of what we have accomplished and what still needs to be accomplished. Lend your voice to causes that benefit our Veterans- New laws and regulations, improved methods of funding health-care, expanded and more timely services, increased benefits and opportunities.
