VetsFirst honored U.S. Representative John R. Carter( R-31st TX) with the VetsFirst Congressional Bronze Star Award in honor of his pursuit of legislation to ensure that veterans with disabilities who use service dogs have access to veterans affairs facilities.

Recipients of the VetsFirst Congressional Bronze Star Award are selected based on their distinguished efforts to support programs and legislation that strengthen the ability of veterans with disabilities to reintegrate into their communities after becoming wounded, injured, or ill as a result of their service to our nation.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award, and will dedicate it to all the groups and individuals who gave their time, money, and effort in helping move this legislation for our wounded veterans into law. Through their support, we succeeded in making life a little easier for our veterans who sacrificed so much for our freedom,” said Carter.

The award was presented during United Spinal Association’s Roll on Capitol Hill–a legislative advocacy event on June 25-26 that brought advocates from the disability community to Washington, D.C. to directly express to legislators the need for greater access to health care, wheelchairs, and policymakers.
